Irán atacó con misiles balísticos objetivos en Erbil, una ciudad en el Kurdistán iraquí. Uno de los blancos habría sido una base de espionaje del Mossad. Es más, las explosiones tuvieron lugar en la zona del Consulado de Estados Unidos y del aeropuerto internacional. Ya ayer los rebeldes hutíes, que contarían con apoyo de Teherán, lograron que uno de sus misiles impactara en un barco comercial estadounidense. Seguramente tanto en Israel como en Washington se habrá evaluado la posibilidad de un ataque contra Irán. Por lógica el mismo debería llevarse a cabo antes de que Irán tenga acceso a una cabeza nuclear. El problema es que la operación es militarmente muy compleja y sus consecuencias son impredecibles, no sólo desde el punto de vista político. Si Israel no se atrevió a atacar en tiempos menos complejos, difícilmente lo hará ahora, auque con Netanyahu las certezas son pocas. Es claro que no calculó con precisión las consecuencias de sus acciones o que sus cálculos no fueron del todo acertados. La administración Biden, por su parte, se muestra apenas un poco más cauta. Si su involucramiento en Ucrania salió mal una eventual escalada en Medio Oriente podría tener consecuencias catastróficas.
Washington está involucrada en demasiados conflictos: en la guerra de Ucrania, en Oriente Medio, en el de las dos Coreas y en las tensiones entre China y Taiwán. Estos días el gobierno filipino negó el ingreso a puerto a un buque estadounidense proveniente de Pearl Harbor y cargado de combustible. Supuestamente formaba parte de la logística para una eventual escalada en el Mar del Sur de China. Algunos presuntos aliados ya no se atreven a ser totalmente incondicionales.
